Holle is the Germanic Winter Goddess of spinning, childbirth, the wild hunt, and home and hearth. She drives her own sleigh on Christmas Eve, and leaves gifts for good children. Legend states, "Holle visits the villages at Christmas time in a carriage full of presents. When the villagers hear her coming, they come out of their cottages to pay respects to Mother Christmas, who in return will send her geese to lay feathers over crops when they are in danger."
