Wells. Often referred to as “the father of Science Fiction,” he approached his writing from a distinctly scientific and socialist viewpoint, which is evident in such works as The Island of Dr. Moreau, The War of the Worlds, and The Time Machine. The latter novel is one of the very first portrayals of time travel, and a classic devising of Wells’ philosophy combined with his quest for plausible depictions of potential technology. We constructed our very own tribute to the novel with a journey both back in time and to those native regions which surely inspired the author in his imaginative names! A dusty, antique bouquet of Rose Geranium with hints of honeysuckle and rose and a drop of sandalwood is placed within the Moors and Lochs of the British Isles: dried marsh grasses and mosses and a wisp of marsh orchid. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Magickal Meanings of Ingredients: ROSE GERANIUM ~ Blessings, Fertility, Love, Protection. The Time Machine is one of my all-time favorite books, and I loved both movies...the original George Pal version (1960), and the new one directed by Wells' grandson Simon (2002)...LOL, I also like that in Simon's version, the character of Weena was renamed MARA! Heeee! Whenever I subject newbies to these movies, I make it a double feature. They are wonderful to watch that way. DO IT, NOW! You don't know what you've been missing!! The original story was written during the Victorian era...1895, so my goal with this one was to reproduce a dusty, antique-smelling elegance....as if you are dusting off an antique bottle to sniff it, and smell some of the dustiness along with the scent of dried flowers and dried marsh grasses. To answer a Q from another thread, Rose Geranium is NOT a rose, but does smell vaguely like them. I used flowers popular in that era, so I did add a drop of rose to the mix but it is in the background. And I think it smells particularly good with sandalwood, too. I'll be curious to try 4th Dimension. When April's NRs came out, I realized that orchid *might* not be one of the florals that gives me a headache, so I'll be looking forward to trying it in other things. Honeysuckle, too. I kinda thought the honeysuckle would give me a headache, and it did for a short while, but the scent changed, and sort of smoothed out, and the headache went away. What kind of mosses are in this? As for The Time Machine - LOVE!!! I do. I love them both! The part in the first one, where they show the bombs going off gave me nightmares when I was a kid. And in the new one, I love the homes. They're like little pods. I confess I've never read the book. I think I own it. I seem to recall picking it up at a used book store... I'll have to go through a few boxes to find it though. There was a...well not exactly a sequel, more of an alternate version book called The Time Ships written a few years ago. Moar books to add to my list of must-read classics. The original movie scared the pants off me the first time I watched it. I'd gotten out of bed late at night, and hid behind the sofa while my dad watched it on tv. He didn't see me there until it was almost over. Yes. I was a bit of a bugger. He just woke me up to watch it the next time it was on. Now I own both versions on dvd. Gotta get reading though, I guess! ETA, thanks Mara. Branched out into Arthur Clarke, Ray Bradbury, and the likes afterwards. I like my sci fi with the accent on "sci." Actually I've been going through a phase of reading about all the oddities of the quantum world, multiverses, tunneling, etc., from a science viewpoint. To me, it's just as fantastic as top-notch sci-fi because it's based in a potential reality. I don't know what you'd call such a genre -- theoretical?? I like the applied theoretical, not the hard-core mathematical theoretical. That's why I like Brian Greene so much. My favorite read recently of this genre is "Connected" by Simon Denman. I agree; I started many years ago by reading Godel, Escher, Bach even though I didn't undersand much of it at the time; it's great that there are many sort of "pop-sci" books out there regarding all sorts of scientific theories and discoveries. I get a bit of citrus in this mixed with a light hint of honeysuckle. It's not as overwhelming as I thought this would be. It's actually very clean and pretty. It reminds me of a very very very Vintage version of Sneaky Clean. I feel very very clean actually, and I expected to be scared of this mainly because there is something about the label that scares me a little. . but this not bad. I feel like this was the original Sneaky Clean. Like remember the original Coke in the 1900s? Well now we have Diet Coke .. This is the original Coca Cola and Sneaky Clean is diet coke. I feel like I am going to see a ghost now. ++++++++++++++++++ I reapplied and wet it smells like that old vintage makeup powder that used to come in a little cardboard circle.. what was it called? Time travel ala H G Wells... an "antique smelling elegance"; dusty, mossy notes.... Although I was blessed to find 2 partial bottles of Time Travel on the trade lists and was gifted a portion of a third by a wonderfully generous friend, I really regret not being here for the release of Time Travel and it works so well during regression sessions. luna65 Posted May 17, 2013 Share Posted May 17, 2013 This does have a definite "antique" vibe to it; it reminds me of a fragrance from decades ago...not necessarily a specific fragrance, but that type of aura. The sandalwood gives it a very interesting aspect. I would say a guy could almost wear this except for those floral accents on top. Because underneath it's much more dark and powdery. This is dampening down by the minute though. Sandalwood is taking a supportive, base role. It turns just the tiniest green in the middle, but the flower emerging victorious is the rose geranium. Alright, the flowers are just a hum in the foreground now. This is starting to become powdery, elegant. sandalwood is getting laid bare as the flowers peel away, and even the sandalwood is turning to dust. The flower never actually goes away though. This perfume should be in one of those old style perfume bottles with thenbig luxurious squeezy atomizers on them! Definitely got the right antique vibe from this one. Snoofing from the bottle, it's antique smelling, but kind of bright. It's rosy, but you can pick up most of the other notes floating about. On my skin, right off the bat, it goes antique powdery in a ***very good way***! I've picked up, dusted off, and snoofed a goodly sampling of old perfume bottles, and this sits right in there. In fact, this *smells* like one I played with a bunch somewhere back in the dark ages! YUM. This is a beautiful rose/sandal/other stuff/history-laden scent. It reminds me a bit of Sea Find in its antiquity and mystery. Once it dries down, it does not morph. I guess the notes that are most prominent for me are the rose/rose geranium and sandalwood. Gods, this is pretty!!! It's funny--the scent is quite serene and relaxing, but as I try to describe it, I get excited! Am slathered and happy as a clam. 4th Dimension is part of the May full bottle set I got. Anonymous2F Posted October 15, 2013 Share Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) This really brings me back to being ten, i looted abandoned houses and collected the really old perfume bottles--i swear this is one very familiar scent. like this was in one of the really nice rooms or something I can smell the honeysuckle and the powder, the moss is also there. I dont smell any dust(that stuff is rank) its more like it was the most loved so it was in a powder room next to the make up and junk. Theres too many florals for me to properly recognize but this one makes me want to sit back and reflect on my childhood. Oh! its reminiscent of what i think a maternal figure would smell like. Soothing, mature, pretty/feminine, comforting and protecting. Good job mara, i really like this one Invokes some serious scent memories ETA: D'oh! it is a floral okay haha whoops. So today found me back in the numerically-named perfumes, trying out 4th Dimension. For some reason I had assumed that this was a unisex scent, so I thought it might be a bit masculine. Boy was I wrong! I wound up liking this far more than I assumed I would have. This is a very feminine, powdery, old-fashioned fragrance. It reminds me of the perfumes that my grandmas had. Sweet and powdery. I swear my one grandma had a solid perfume that smelled almost exactly like this. With scents like these, I imagine them as 1940s-style fragrances. Elegant and ladylike. If this perfume was a woman, she'd have dark hair styled in pin curls and wear a classic, figure-flattering dress that flared out around her calves, with her face perfectly made up for a day out window shopping.
