Wow, I've never had a reaction like that from Excalibur. Closest thing to negative I've ever heard came from a younger relative who told me it, 'smells like you. It smells like you should swagger.'

There is something about Excalibur I just like. It's so simple. But it makes me feel good. It smells "green" without making me feel like a fern.

When it comes to a daily "wear-it-to-the-office" sort of blend... I like Excalibur and Pendragon. Though for me, Excalibur has the edge, simply because it's got a stronger, more "defined" scent.

Yep, a swagger does go with it.

Let me put it this way: in a world of male hegemony, I'd say one advantage is entirely fair.

I'd say another huge advantage is the ability to multitask effectively. Combined with the ability to manipulate a man, these psychological advantages can be used to devastating advantage... for good, or not so good purposes & results.

*NO, manipulation is not a bad thing. The word has gotten a bad rap (worse even than "propaganda"), but it is neither 'good' nor 'bad.' It just IS. Being manipulative does not make one Lady Macbeth. Any smart mother will manipulate her children (when necessary) into doing completely healthy things like... eating their spinach, cleaning their room, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

ETA: Wait, UNscented cops? The efficacy of these is considered somewhat of a myth. But I am definitely interested to hear if your experiences prove otherwise.

When I said "unscented cops," I meant without any added perfume. Having tried Heart Throb, I expect it to smell "off" (but presumably much stronger).

SS4M is a charismatic bad boy...like you know he's a rogue but he's a charming attractive dazzling kind of rogue. SS4M has that "feel good" core to it that gets the XXs high.

<3throb is a tail twitcher, so to speak. The bad boy which some of us are hardwired to desire and yet not entirely dark alleyway kind of bad. More like the smirking smoldering kind of bad boy. <3throb is like one of my bad boy characters come to life, pheromone-wise.

In balancing the two blends differently, you really do get quite a different end effect. What we were going for with Heart Throb actually was closer to the appeal of the 'one night stand' blends, but hopefully with a bit more sophistication. Besides the 'bad boy' aspect of copulins, there's a LOT more DHEAS in this blend, which adds an "excitement" aspect. It is a lively, stimulating energizer, and lends the "butterfly in the tummy" feeling. It's also a little more rone/none heavy than SS4M and has an extra splash of Alpha-Nol.

I am very new to this, but reading the "philosophy" behind them, I didn't look for them for the "one night stand" (never had them, never will), but looking for a way to be more "me". Sometimes you need a push in one direction or another or need a bit of help with a sticky problem (going back to my favorite so far...Shark Whisperer). I work in a very high stress environment and sometimes people just need to be nudged a little bit to get over egos or whatever and work together or that initial WTF instinct needs to be mellowed. I got one of the trial packs that Mara and Catherine put together for me and had one of the most successful conferences to date for me, work wise. Came back to trouble brewing and, based on their advice, wore Shark Whisperer in order to help smooth feathers and work out problems that had occurred while I was gone.

I'm looking forward to trying some of the socials myself. But my personality is friendly, outgoing, and an intent listener; and I was raised to be as polite and respectful towards peers and subordinates (During my time in the military, I validated the effectiveness of this leadership style in a "super-high Y" atmosphere (short version: leadership through demonstration, encouragement, and praise is [i believe] more effective, than leadership by diktat).

So, I'd have to actively seek out hostile environments within which to test the socials (though I've got some WeaponX and TeddyMan2 inbound just for fun).

I will try some of the more "date night" scents and pheromones when I get the chance. One question that struck me (and maybe I'm being too simplistic), but when you are in a relationship it is just plain fun to experiment with pheromones, but is it a type of manipulation or cheating the system if you are trying to get someone interested or just changing the odds? I haven't quite worked that out in my head, yet.

The very fact that women produce copulins is cheating the system lol... (in my best Rod Serling voice) Picture if you will: a man, being led by the nose....

I would venture to guess, that this is nature's way of empowering, (and possibly protecting) the [physically] weaker sex.

If there really existed a clear-cut, no BS way to "cheat the system" as a man, and gain an advantage over women in the same fashion that women can use chemicals to gain an advantage over men... The inventor and marketer of that formula would (if they were smart) be wealthy beyond their wildest dreams before you could say "Bill Gates."

As it is, (in my opinion) synthetic pheromones provide men with a way to stand out a bit from the crowd, and maybe "steer" the action just a bit. But it still comes down to your ability to be comfortable in your own skin, confident in yourself, and conversant with those around you.

My Dad used to tell me "Ron son, girls are like buses. If you miss one, the next one will be along in about 15 minutes." So, don't be a doormat. Have your own life. But do be a good listener. Make her laugh, and when you find the right one... buy her chairs.

ASIDE

Copulins are so powerful, and raise men's testosterone level so rapidly, that I've been tempted to order a small vial of some unscented cops in the strongest concentration I can find in order to dab a little on my upper lip about half an hour before my workout.... It's certainly worth a try. Along those same lines, it is my understanding that dosing ones self with Androstenone on a regular basis may very well cause your body to begin producing more testosterone on its own in order to adapt to the new "high testosterone environment." So, perhaps I'd do well to experiment with 50% cops and 50% Androstenone in an oil base for dabbing under my nose???

Honestly I think there are a variety of products that are needed for either sex. That's what I love about LP, there are sooo many blends and you can really tailor your phero wardrobe to match your needs. I don't know that much about none heavy blends because I am a girl, but it does seem like none and/or rone are in most male blends. Personally I don't want to see B-nol in all the attractant type mixes. I like to use that one in measured doses and for certain situations. I think DHEAS is underused at this point, but will surely be included in more blends soon. The research and testing on some of these molecules is a lot more recent than some of the more established ones. Just think how many more there will be to play with in 10 years. And I think also the molecules that get the most consistent "bigger" results are always going to be used more.

I sure hope we don't actually "need" all these phero's (bottled) ;-) We've been doing ok for thousands of years. While I'm serious about scents, phero's are more a playful hobbyist sort of activity. If I ever get to where I NEED them, it's time to put me in diapers and planning to pull the plug lol.

Yup, I think you're on to something. I would think men would be interested in blends for new TGs that won't risk aggravating her during the wrong time of her cycle, but it does seem like a lot retailers pushing the 'none heavy blends aren't interested in factoring th ewhole picture into their products' usage, imo. But seriously, I think age has crept up on me, and I have 20/20 hindsight.

I remember as a child (from eight or ten, through 14 or 15 y/o), noticing that women thought my father was incredibly sexy. I couldn't get my mind wrapped around the concept... "my dad?!?... sexy?!?... ewwww!" He was an average, middle-aged man with thinning hair, and a limp that came from wearing an artificial leg (about 6" below his right knee). Though he was friendly, soft-spoken, kind, gentle, rugged, and very manly.

People felt comfortable around him, and would talk incessantly, telling him things that I'm sure he wished they'd kept to themselves (this particular trait, he passed on to me... ack!).

I wonder if he wasn't blessed with an abundance of that "Alpha male protector" vibe.

My mental image of Androstenone is a rutting animal with a singular motive, yet without aim, direction, or conscience. Much less the ability for long-term planning.

I'm absolutely positive that Androstenone works, and works well (regularly) on a minority of the female of our species. But even if I were single, that particular segment would not be my target market (too much "baggage").

That is not to say that it [Androstenone] doesn't have a place... it most certainly does; just not at the head of the table. I'd call him the "Mr Hyde" that only comes out after the kids are in bed. lol.

Going back to SS4M and <3 Throb, the ingredients (aside from copulins) are nearly identical, but in slightly different ratios. What was the thinking behind the different mixes? (I'm looking at my rapidly-dwindling supply of each, and trying to decide which one to get next in a big bottle).

The longer I read on the subject, the more I am left with the impression that the commercial philosophy behind pheromone usage (as it pertains to attractants) is definitely "one size fits all."

Specifically, it seems as though every company out there who is pushing any sort of "magic" pheromone bullet seems fixated upon Androstenone.

However, beyond post-adolescence, there's more to courtship and romance than howling, sweaty displays of manhood, followed by much ripping & tearing (well...most of the time >:-) ).

From what [very little] I know about human psychology and interpersonal relationships, I would think that A-Androsterone, B-Androstenol, and DHEAS would be a better foundation upon which to build an attractant... with Androstenone there, but lurking in the background.

That's one of the reasons why SS4M and <3 Throb are so intriguing to me (on a side note, I can attest to the effectiveness of SS4m around the house).

Am I on the right track? Am I over-thinking it? or is the mainstream correct, and does Androstenone remain the star player in most commercial products because it belongs at the top?

...I have a hard time describing what it smells like, but I guess it's the manliest floral scent I have ever smelled. In retrospect, the description of it is good. When I first used it, I had no idea what to say about it. It just smelled GOOD. It gave me a lot of the "what is that smell?" impression followed by a moment where you try to collect your thoughts together to figure it out. ...immediately following it is some scent I can't describe that turns it pretty masculine. Unfortunately for me, I missed seeing this on the sale list, but it is definitely worth buying a full bottle for IMO. It's one of my favorites of all the scents I've tried so far.

22:45 I too have absolutely no idea how to describe this scent. When I first put it on (4-5 drops), I got a sense of something deep, complex, and oily.

23:15 It took about 30 minutes for me to be able to pick anything out of here. According to the spec sheet there's Amber... and Violet... and Moss... the Sandalwood is back there, but it's not prevalent at first.

23:17 ... Ok, I just couldn't resist dabbing a little more on my left wrist and rubbing the two together [again]. I like feeling the scent becoming more and more complex as it dries down.

If THAT is what Violet smells like, I want to open a flower shop.

Gotta be honest, when I'd first gotten a sample of this quite a while ago (when I first discovered LP I bought the men's sample pack) and wasn't exactly loving this. ...But it dried down very nicely into a masculine floral/woodsy scent.

I put off trying Boddice Ripper; because, in the bottle, it just didn't "grab me" (you know, the way something like Mark's Tonka Tabacum just reaches out and takes hold of you).

But when I put it on [bR] it woke up and began to spread out.

I've been testing her nose out on all my scent samples. So far, she likes Pendragon, and Mark's Girl Nip. She didn't care for Super 4 Men... OR Mark's Tonka Tabacum (two of my faves). However, because Teacher's pest has very little sweetness by comparison, I've got high hopes for it.

Her first reaction upon having a huff in the middle of the bread aisle was "ewww, it smells like Maple." (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot... OVER?!).

Perhaps my skin brings out the "maple sweetness" of perfume?

21:30 I'm inhaling deeply from my wrist: No maple... but also no cherry (what happened? I was really looking forward to just a hint of cherry sweetness). Unfortunately, my skin will only give me warm, rich tobacco, and wood. Not a bad thing at all. But It's missing that... "je ne sais quoi" that makes it stand out.

22:00 Kids are put to bed. While she gets ready for a smoke break in the Garage (a drink, a warm coat, and her Nook), I have her give it one more sniff. She says "It smells like perfume."

I haven't tried Salute. Though while she isn't insistent... when the subject comes up, she's pushin' the Cool Water. It's not bad, but I like dark, mysterious, smoky and spicy.... on me.

I suppose I shall have to content myself with keeping Super 2 as a personal indulgence. lol.

I got my goodie bag of LPMP fragrances, and pursuant to the [nearly universal] recommendations of the ladies here... I went straight for the "Super for Men 2."

Unlike most men (at least the ones you girls keep mentioning), I really like this stuff! It went on sweet and warm. I felt (more than smelled) the tobacco and the syrup (my 4y/o daughter said I smelled like "pancakes").

My skin didn't bring out the Lavender or Eucalyptus at all.

An hour later, it had dried down to maple syrup and wood. Two hours later, I'd catch faint hints of something that made me think of mahogany.

S2 sticks around a long time. There is no need to reapply (at least in the oil version). I definitely like this stuff.

However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and fragrances are subjective....

So HORROR of horrors!!! ...unlike most women, SHE didn't like it

After reading all the input above, I was anxiously looking forward to full-blown swoon from the lady fair. But it was not to be.

Scents trigger memories in our subconscious... and my wife said "it smells like those awful maple candies that people make at Christmas." Four hours later, she said "...Honey, I love you... you stink!"

Oh well... I still like it. Though it looks like I'll be wearing Super 2 when I get away for some me time at the movies (i.e. when I want to go see "Mission Impossible," "The Expendables," or other not so Oscar worthy fare).

The thing with pheromones is... after having read through the relevant entries on pherotruth.com (via which I was introduced to LPMP), and then other, similar forums. I then came over here (where the girls are) because, I have a sneaking suspicion that most men have it wrong... and if I want to find out what works, I should observe a representative sample of the potential target.

Nearly every company out there selling pheromones and "pheromone enhanced" products, leads with Androstenone. Fine, I get that it's a cave man in a bottle. But is that what actually WORKS?

I've experimented with ridiculous amounts (5 drops True Instinct oil) of Androstenone at the local mall during Christmas shopping season. Yet, no one has looked at me like I was a serial masher. They were nice and pleasant and helpful. Of course I was also my typically upbeat, friendly, pleasant self (I'm not being facetious here, I really do genuinely like people, and being around them).

And it wasn't an overdose, or "ghosting" (both of which I am beginning to think are mythical). Some years ago, I spent 9+ years in the Marine Corps Infantry, so I'm not a stranger to Androstenone, and do feel comfortable with excessive amounts.

While I haven't yet received my trial size of SS4M, the fact that Androstenone appears NOT to be the primary ingredient seems promising to me... mainly because I've begun to have this sneaking suspicion that A/B-Androstenol, Androsterone and Androstanone should come first, with Androstenone lurking, ever present, in the background (along with the DHEAS).

I also think maybe the focus should be on the "self-effects" of women's products. Getting her into a mood conducive to heart-pounding adventure and experimentation tonight begins with making her feel wanted and desirable this morning.

As for me, I think one of Harrison Ford's characters said it best: "Good grief. You know how you attract a man? You show up. We're men. We're easy." (see: "Six Days, Seven Nights")

I'm going to try Excalibur because it has such good reviews. I'm a little hesitant, because "greenery" isn't my thing... but I'll try anything once (twice, if I like it).

As a fan of old Confederate Railroad songs ("I like my women just a little on the trashy side"), the description for Sparkle Fuschia grabbed me with both hands.

She (Jenn) is not a clothes horse, a shoe person, or a hair & makeup princess, much less a scent hound. As the introvert in the relationship (ISTP), after a hard day's work (in an environment where she must behave like an extrovert), she loves nothing more than to curl up with a good book and escape from the world. But she's got an innate sense of adventure that I may be able to harness, for the trip down this road.

I, on the other hand, am the more extroverted partner (ENT[P:J*]), who needs a guardian angel lol.

Lets see....for my man.....that would have to be Super for Men (OMG.....if you don't want pheros, that would be UN......sexy sexy sexy), Bodice Ripper, and hmmmmm....I guess my third would be one another one that has pheros......Dad......it is not so much sexy, but is fresh and clean-smelling. Sexy in a different way, I guess......

 

Trust me though....get the Super For Men with the pheros, and your lady will be ripping your clothes off....possibly with her TEETH.....

Ares for Men is a scent that transports me to the Library, or the Billiard room of a private Gentleman's Club.

Ares was my first scent from LPMP. I wanted something "low risk" that I could easily give away if it turned out to be doubleplus ungood on my skin.

I was pleasantly surprised! In my 44 years, I have never before reviewed a scent (save perhaps for the variations between brands of smokeless powder). However, when I sprayed Ares on my forearm, the first thing I noticed was faint musk and leather (yes, I know it's not in the Ares for Men info page, but that's what I smell).

Once the carrier dissipated, I began to smell an indescribable something that is quite pleasant. It's green, but very faint (which is a good thing, as I swore off smelling like a shrub when I left the service years ago). There is also something that makes me think of Amber, with an ephemeral shadow of saddle soap (that's probably not the correct term, but my scent vocabulary is quite limited at present)

Shortly after that, I began to smell something that was vaguely reminiscent of a tailor's shop. When I was on a trip to the far east some years ago, I got a fantastic deal on some bespoke suits. During my fittings, I noticed that the wools and silks on the cutting table had a pleasant scent that permeated everything... much later (about an hour), I caught this scent (or something very close to it) in Ares.

I have an unrefined nose, but if I close my eyes and 'listen' carefully, I can just barely make out a hint of something citrusy in the background.

About 15 minutes after application, my wife walked into my office and said "it smells like hairspray in here." I told her I'd gotten a new cologne, and was trying it out. She inhaled deeply of my wrist, and said "it smells like my grandmother's linen closet." Having met her grandmother, and knowing how close they are, I understand that remark in its context (it's a good thing).

For me, Ares is a keeper, and will be great for situations in which I need to project maturity and personal power (think "meeting with the board of directors," "asking for a really big loan," etc). Or... when I'm on a long drive by myself. I imagine it will mix very well with True Alpha, or A314.

But since I'm here anyway.

What do you ladies like on a man? I know it's a subjective question at best. But there have got to be some commonalities of preference for there to be a "best sellers" list.

If you and your guy were stuck on a desert island, for the duration, and could choose only three scents for him... what would they be? Keep in mind, I'm looking for scents here, not pheromones... I'll get to that part later, this is a combined arms exercise, so I've got to get the artillery emplaced first.

On the other side of that equation, if you could only choose three scents for YOU, what would they be. I'm looking for the ones that make YOU feel best. Again, it's subjective, one might like playful and sweet, another might prefer the animal spirit, and still another might need to feel like she's 'da bomb' all on her own before she can get her head into playtime.

Advice to both of you is to let your tastes evolve a while. Especially if you haven't experienced artisan perfumes before and have only tried department store scents. You many initially not like a scent, or thing its just not you, but after a while you may both change your mind. So don't immediately trade away or give away one you don't initially like.

I'll add that to the list of trial sizes I'm working up for her (it's gotten considerably longer). I have no clue what she will actually enjoy wearing (as she so very rarely wears any scent at all), but it's good for a girl to have plenty of choices, yes?

As to my tastes... perhaps it's fortunate that I enjoy strong tastes in food, wine, and experiences. "I don't often drink beer, but when I do, I prefer..." Rogue Shakespeare Stout.

Nice list! Now most of your choices for your wife are among the spicier scents, of which I am a total junkie! It really depends on what your wife likes scent-wise. Some people like more foody scents and some like floral or citrus. If you can at least get an idea of what sort of scent then you can narrow it down some.

 

You'll hear us talk a lot about "pink" scents for example. (Sparkle Fuschia on your list is a sort of pink scent, and a great choice!!) Pink can be light, sugary, and sweet. Some pinks have a hint of spice. LP pink or OCCO pink is a good one to try.

Okay okay I'll shut up, but ONE more: Darling Clementine! smells like orange buttercream cake. To die for. Mind you not in a over sweet chemically, cheap teeny bopper cologne, but this is a rich, light, high quality artisan scent. If you like orange or foodie scents give this a try!

Forgot my manners:

I smell spicy scents..... and I do the werewolf thing... grrr lol. Something exotic with cinnamon, coffee, coriander, licorice... (I don't know if these things go together, but I like them all, and many other spicy notes which I do not know by name).

And vanilla makes me get all weak in the knees in an 'innocent' sort of way. Some years ago, on a trip to Bahrain, I brought home some Vanilla scented perfume oil. Unfortunately, during her pregnancy with my oldest (8), my Wife developed a nauseating aversion to vanilla that has not yet abated.

I have worn it my own self on occasion, and my kids tell me It makes me smell like a cookie, which is enough for me to like it lol... None of my buddies have mentioned the smell at all.

Hmmm. Darling Clementine it is then.
