  1. Diane has some information-packed threads in her journal (there's a link at the bottom of the page to go to it). I was hoping to be able to link you to the specific post I was thinking of, but couldn't find it. Luckily, I saved it into a Word file when I first saw it, since I thought it might be handy to have around.

So, in Diane's words (can't emphasize that enough-- she's the smart one, not me):

"All pheromones target responses in parts of the hypothalamus and many do so in a gender-specific fashion.

    Alpha Androstenol -

Androstenol is a positive modulators of GABA-A (inhibitory) receptors, and this makes it have anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, and social harmonizing properties. Alpha Androstenol has been shown in recent scientific studies to stimulate portions of the hypothalamus when smelled and may also have mood elevating and sexual stimulating properties. Because it is a GABA-A positive modulator, it may interfere with long term memory and promote deeper sleep.

    Androstadienone -

Androstadienone activates the pre-optic and ventro-medial nuclei of the hypothalamus of women, increasing sexual desire and pleasurable feelings. Androstadienone is only produced in the presence of excess testosterone. Neuro-steroid receptors for this pheromone have not yet been positively identified.

    Androsterone -

Androsterone is a positive modulators of GABA-A (inhibitory) receptors, and this makes it have anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, and social harmonizing properties. Androsterone is only produced in males in the presence of excess testosterone.

    Estratetraenol -

Estratetraenol is one of the most powerful female pheromones effecting males, and is produced only during pregnancy. And it is actually produced by the fetal liver during the course of the entire pregnancy. Estratetraenol has been shown in scientific studies to target and excite the medial and pre-optic (hypothalamic) areas of male brains, causing the release of oxytocin into the blood stream, leading to feelings of bonding, love, and protectiveness. The specific receptors have not yet been identified.

    DHEA and DHEA-S -

DHEA and DHEA-S are precursors to the androgens and estrogens.

DHEA is a positive modulator of Sigma-1 (endorphin) and NMDA (excitatory) receptors and is a negative modulator of GABA-A. It has strong effects on memory and learning, strong motivational effects, mood lifting effects, and strong anti-phobia effects.

DHEA-S is a positive modulator of Sigma-1 (endorphin) receptors, a partial agonist of NMDA receptors, and a negative modulator of GABA-A. It has strong anti-phobic properties and is sexually stimulating, and increases dopamine release in the hypothalamus, thereby increasing pleasure response.

And some of my personal favorites:

    Pregnenolone and Pregnenolone-S -

Pregnenolone is a precursor to progesterone, all mineralcorticoids and glucocorticoids, DHEA, DHEA-S, estrogen and testosterone.

Pregnenolone is produced in the adrenal glands and in the brain, skin, liver, and ovaries and testes. As a pheromone Pregnenolone is a positive modulator of Sigma-1 (endorphin) receptors and a negative modulator of muscarinic (acetylcholine) receptors. It has anti-depressant effects, emotional mood lifting effects, memory enhancing effects, and mild sexual stimulating effects.

Pregnenolone-S negatively modulates GABA-A (inhibitory), Glycine (excitatory), AMPA (excitatory), and nnAcH (nicotinic Acetylcholine)receptors. It positively modulates Sigma-1 (endorphin) and NMDA (excitatory) receptors. Pregnenolone-S has potent memory and learning effects, has strong anti-phobia effects, is sexually stimulating, increases body NO production with effects similar to Viagra, and like DHEA-S, increases dopamine release in the hypothalamus.

    TH-DOC and Beta TH-DOC -

TH-DOC is a strong positive modulator of GABA-A (inhibitory), a positive modulator of NMDA (excitatory), and a negative modulator of 5-HT-3 (strong anti-anxiety effects). It has potent anti-anxiety effects, and enhances both male and female sexual interest and behaviors. TH-DOC can be sedating to women and sexually excitatory to men. It increases GnRH and oxytocin release in men.

Beta-TH-DOC is a positive modulator of GABA-A receptors and a negative modulator of NMDA. It has anti-anxiety, anti-phobia, and relaxing effects.

    Allopregnanolone and Pregnanolone -

Allopregnanolone and Pregnanolone are strong positive modulators of GABA-A (inhibitory) receptors and strong negative modulators of Glycine (excitatory) and NMDA (excitatory) receptors. Both have the potential to interfere with long term memory and increase deep sleep. Both have potent anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects.

Allopregnanolone negatively modulate 5-HT-3 receptors (strong anti-anxiety effect), and increases dopamine release, and has sexually exciting effects on males.

    More to come...

    Diane"

  2. :666:! I must say, I was very pleased with this concoction! I laughed when I saw the name (and it makes me feel uber-special to have my name on the bottle), and the label is adorable with little birds and swirlies. So I was excited to get this before I even opened it up and took a whiff!

I asked for Lime, Pineapple, and Coconut, with a sugar of the ladies' choosing. It is scrumptious! The citrus with the rich coconut in the background makes me feel like I'm on a beach somewhere, or at least drinking some kind of tropical cocktail. :D

I can't wait for my boyfriend to get home so I can have him sniff it! I chose some of his favorite fruits, so I'm sure he'll like it.

    Thank you so much!

  3. Just placed an order for Eternal Chain, Tabby, Karmiel's Silken Moonlight, Rosebud Cupcake, and the monthly samples of Saturday Night Special, That Kind of Girl, and/or Sinister Pink.

I couldn't resist the sales (yet again), I loved the sample of Rosebud Cupcake, and I'd heard such good things about the Silken Moonlight that I needed to try it.

I was bummed out, since apparently Happy Waters sold out since the last time I checked. That's what I'd intended to get, but since it was gone, I changed my game plan. :666:

  4. The cucumber in this kind of smells like sweet grasses to me-- it's very nice, and it does call a secluded grove to mind, especially when combined with the subtle floral of the rose.

  5. While I do like this scent, I think it kind of gives off a masculine vibe. No problem, I'll just give it to my boyfriend! :3

On me, at least, this gives off a really clean scent, and it is soothing. It makes me think of aftershave or something. And it makes me think of stubbly men for some reason. Like cowboys. Hee hee!

  6. Mmm, on application, it's a light, airy coconut (Pie in the Sky, indeed!). After it dries a little, the graham cracker crust comes through, and it is just delightful!

  7. On me, the spice comes out the strongest, with a dark pumpkin-y scent in the background. It seems kind of... dry? It's funny, because in the vial the fruity, berry scent is foremost.

On drydown, a little caramel comes through. Mmmm.

  8. I really like this one. It is very silky and clean, with a hint of fruit. Something about it does invoke the coolness of night. I think this might be a full-bottle purchase at some point.

  9. I am still in a state of insanity-- went to town on the sales page again. Some of these are gifts, though. :(

I was going to get the yearly subscription, but I didn't have enough money. Haha, I actually had to transfer money out of my savings account (which I try to pretend doesn't exist, so it's around for emergencies) to cover this one. Eek!

  10. LPs have made me less afraid of patchouli-- it's amazing!

Anyway, I dabbed this on my arm and went to bed, but couldn't stop sniffing myself and finally had to get up to write about it.

There is something dark about this perfume-- dark and rich and creamy, with the spicy cardamom heating things up.

I'm really surprised that there aren't any pheros in it, because it makes me feel really sensual in a way no other has yet. Or maybe I'm just sleepy and silly. But this is definitely going on my full-bottle list.

  11. A lovely floral scent! It almost smells like lilac to me (which I love), but I'm hardly an expert. I slathered it on, but it isn't overpowering at all. Very fresh and pleasant.

Oh and I say "almost" because I don't know what many flowers smell like, and lilacs aren't on the list of ingredients. Hmm.. on closer inspection (closer sniff?) I think I can detect rose and ... some kind of lily? *re-checks list* Ah, no lily. I'm no good at this. But anyway, it's a lovely scent.
