Archive: Distant Calliope

Recommended Posts

I feel a distant chill, a touch of rain

clouds on the horizon drear and gray

the wind is telling me Fall is near.

Leaves begin to rattle and the birds seem mournful

the wind is telling me Summer cannot linger

But for one brief respite of magic

the wind carries a distant calliope

its’ brass-tuned promise of delight

proclaiming the Carnival has arrived

the night so dark but the lights at the edge of town

burn so bright.

We lose ourselves in play and in wonder

at everything in our sight

everyone is a child again, running down the Midway

everyone is alive again, even as the season is dying.

And so when I feel the biting wind I strain to hear

that melody, burbling and dazzling

sweetness and mystery and fascination

come, Carnival, come and entertain us

before the frost and the darkness

enfolds us.

A fragrance like a haunting melody, far-off music carried by the wind, imbuing your mood with mystery and hazy memories...foggy rain accord blended with resinous aspects of sandalwood and myrrh, silky-smooth dry vanilla, cocoa powder and powdered sugar, and just a wisp of sweet orange blossom honey.

SANDALWOOD ~ Love, exotic, sensual atmospheric; aphrodisiac. Healing, spirituality, exorcism.
MYRRH ~ Stimulating, soothing. Powerful guard against evil.
HONEY ~ Enticing, seductive; use to bewitch a straying or hesitant lover. Happiness, fulfillment.
POWDERED SUGAR ~ Attracts love, luck, sweetness and riches. Lust inducing, wishes granted.
COCOA POWDER ~ Lightens emotions, evokes feelings of love.

A tradition much beloved by us here at LPMP is the Fall Carnival: a final farewell to the carefree joys of Summer - as the light begins to wane earlier each day and the weather turns brisk - it’s one last time for frolic and fun. Our 2016 Carnival Collection pays tribute to the sights, sounds, and smells of an old-fashioned traveling carnival...its’ colorful characters and delicious treats, all the unique delights one can only experience amidst the excitement on a September eve, with a chill in the air and the haunting music of a distant calliope...
