  1. Just tried out my sample of this and it's a full bottle for sure! I think this will be perfect for spring: the rose is gorgeous and definitely attar of Rose (which smells more resin-y and less flowery to me), a deep rich smell. With the buttercream it becomes so richly delicious I can taste it! This would probably be a little too heavy for me in really hot weather, but it's going to be just perfect for mild balmy temperatures.

  2. Oh, my gosh, just picked up a big box of wonderfulness at the post office! I can't get over how beautifully the Spell Potions are packaged, along with that gorgeous bag, and I can't wait to speed through my samples to see if I will be hitting the Sale thread one last time! (Hint: I've already found at least one more "must have"!). I can't even imagine the work it has taken to put on this sale; thank you SO much.

  3. This would have never have been on my radar if BlackCat had not gone bonkers over how good this was. I searched thru all of my sniffles found this baby and I was in :Emoticons04235: LOVE :Emoticons04235: then a kind LP'r who I did a trade with included this as a FREE bottle in my order and I thought I was good to go until my daughter ripped off the HH and called it hers, so of course I had to grab one for my self... I'm really not a earth or lily fan but this combo is simply amazing.

Bonkers indeed! Watching the numbers go down on this has me rapping my fingers :Emoticons04269: and wondering Do I have enough? and I really really really shouldn't go back to the sale bin when I haven't even gotten a shipping notice for my last order two weeks ago, and yet I really really think I might. This remains an all-time favorite for me. Like Stacy, it was seeing Mara's name on it that prompted me to give it a serious try.

And yes, Storemy, I have to remember that there will be new magical fall scents again not too long for now!

Update: Yeah. I caved. But it's the last round!

  4. This is one I ordered as a sample and decided not to get a full bottle of--but it is a beautiful scent. I think I was expecting something spicier and more exotic, and it smelled very elegant instead. The floral note was more prominent than the dragon's blood, and the honey was very toned down for me. If you are looking for an elegant, kind of classic "perfume" scent, this is definitely a winner.

  5. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet, because when I did my first big sample order at the beginning of the summer, this was my surprise favorite! I honestly ordered it because I loved the name, the label, and the description, but I thought it would be one of those where I fall in love with those elements and the scent itself doesn't work for me. Because--maple? HAY? No, no, no.

The minute I put this on I was in love with it. At times, I can pick out individual notes--the maple, the buttercream--but mostly it just blends perfectly in this odd, sweet (but not sugar-y sweet) and slightly spicy, slightly earthy, very mysterious and subtle but potent scent. Incense-y resins can sometimes give me a headache, but they didn't here. I was also afraid that the hay note would provoke an allergic response (I get that sometimes with greens and water accords) but it's been just fine.

So, if you harbor a little goth girl inside, this is for you. But if your little goth girl needs to put on a nice outfit and go to work, or a big family dinner, she can wear this.

  6.

Hey! I just tested the LP Autumnal 2011 blend. If you're aiming for the creamy vanilla-ness and pumpkin combo, that has it, though the pumpkin is faint on me. There's bottles and samples left in the sale. Just snagged another one myself.

I just might do that! I think I can get one last round of sale shopping under the wire this year.... and the creamy vanilla pumpkin is definitely calling me. Thanks for the recommendation!

  7. Nice review, Blackcat! That's very much how I feel about Sneaky Clean, too. It tops my list, both in terms of scent, and phero. Together, the scent and phero really do the job for me at work, too. "Sneaky Clean" is the perfect name for it. Initially there's that luxurious soap/shampoo scent, (which to my nose, almost smells fluffy), and then as that scent fades over the course of the day, there's that gorgeous musk that shows up. It mimics what happens from shower time to the end of day, as if you weren't wearing perfume at all. You go from smelling all clean and soapy, then the soap smell gradually fades, and you begin to smell your own skin. I like that. It's a very natural feel. And it fits very well in a work environment. The phero is just fantastic for building relationships with customers. I find that with my regulars, it makes the women all very buddy-buddy with me, and the men flirt just a little bit more than they would if I were sans phero, but it's in a very good-natured way, not at all sleazy. There's something really kind of classy/elegant/natural about SS4W in general, which is why I gravitated toward it in the first place. But it's so perfectly paired with the Sneaky Clean scent that it feels as though I'm stepping into my natural second skin when I wear it.

I couldn't be happier that Mara decided to make this part of the permanent range. Honestly. Thank you again, Mara! Sneaky Clean makes me feel like me on my best day, only better. :D

Thanks, Eggers! You are so right about the way the scent changes over the course of the day. It's beautifully subtle.

And I also was struck by what you said about the effects with women customers. This definitely had as pronounced as effect with other women for me as it did with men. I have learned to spot the kind of woman who is always trouble and this had a definite softening effect on a couple of ladies who looked like total terrors! I may need to try some other things boosted with SS4W, although I think part of the reason Sneaky Clean works *so* well is that the scent itself is so non-threatening to other women. It's really beautiful, but it isn't calling attention to itself or showing off. (Or trying to get her husband's attention in a way that isn't good.) So yes this one is a winner!

  8. It's already almost 3 years old, so consider it aged.

Oh, right, that makes sense. So I guess I'd have to pin my hopes on *my* aging to change the chemistry! Yeah, probably unlikely!

    Awwww! That sucks Blackcat!!

I can't believe I didn't review this. I got a sample of this right before last Halloween and snapped up a bottle on the trade thread. It's the creamiest vanilla I ever smelled. It smells like the Kozyshack rice pudding tastes (which is the epitome of vanilla.) I get the faintest hint of pumpkin, just enough to pop out an announce its presence, but not enough to turn this into a pumpkin scent for me. The apple butter warms it up but isn't distinctly apple to my nose. It wears fairly close to the skin, and like bellumed said, it gets better and better as it wears on. I like this for the fall.

Thanks BB! Fortunately there are so many wonderful fall scents to try. I'm thinking I might give this one to my mom and see if I can enjoy that feast you describe on her!

  9. Sneaky Clean has become my secret weapon when the world is just whacking away at me. It smells more classically "perfume-y" to me, which is usually not what I'm drawn to, but the scent is so comforting and uplifting. It reminds me (emotionally, not necessarily in terms of actual notes) of smelling my mom's perfume when I was a little girl and she and my dad were going out--grown-up and exciting and reassuring all at the same time. And since I rarely feel grown-up, it's a lovely boost to wear this one.

It really does make me think of shampoo, in the best possible way. The description is right on the money--I feel freshly showered and wrapped in things made of natural fibers (silk, cotton). And although it's very luxurious, it actually puts me in the mood to accomplish things. Some luxurious scents put me in the mood just to loll around on my bed, reading romance novels and snuggling with animals. Not this one!

I'm actually not that into the pheromones, normally, but SS4W is a total hit for me (and a total match for what the scent is already doing). It makes me feel calm and cheerful and helpful, and as such is a great asset for my retail job. I like the hits I get with it--I find that a lot of my customers are more polite, attentive and interested than usual. We have a lot of regulars that we build relationships with, and this seems to enhance that sense of connection. To the degree that flirtation is amped up, it's always in the flattering category and not in the creepy predatory one.

I have also discovered that I need to be very conservative in how much I apply. Normally I am a slatherer--I often need to put on quite a lot for my skin to hold scents. But Sneaky Clean is magical. Just a few strips on my belly, smudged around per instructions, and I'm good to go for 12 hours. (I also find I can overdose a bit on SS4W and get a little over-the-top giddy. So less is more, for me, with this one).

Anyway. I am so glad this is in the permanent collection, and I expect it to be a permanent staple of MY collection.

  10. Well, I think it's official that this one is just not working for me. :arf: In the bottle, it's amazing--rich creamy vanilla (ice creamy) pumpkin. When I put it on, though, something really odd happens--it smells like wet fabric. Like the lining of a vintage fur coat that's gotten wet, or something. Sharp and a little moldy.

I've tried waiting it out, but it also doesn't last tremendously long on me (which is good, in terms of getting rid of sharp coat lining smell, but sad, in that the abundant goodness others have gotten to never arrives for me). I think I'll try the scent locket trick I've seen mentioned in some threads on this one--I love the in-the-bottle smell, I just can't transfer it onto my skin.

Or maybe letting it age will help?

  11. I am surprised. When Mara announced the new releases, I thought Smitten Kitten, Come to Me, and the Gimme Money potions were for sure going to sell out first.

I surprised myself when I went to pick my 10 bottles for my set--as a single lady, I thought I'd be all about the Smitten Kitten, Come To Me Lover and Love Immortal, and as someone who is spending WAY too much money on this sale, Gimme Money and Shut Up and Get a Job would both have made sense! But apparently I'm more in need of Hex Breaking and Defensive Magic these days. Who knew.

  12. This is an amazing scent. How best to describe .. obviously a terrific idea for the fall, you can definitely relate to the graveyard thing but that's not all there is to it. I get gardening in the moist, cool NE soil, leaves, cool earth and the mossy underside of a stone. Additionally, there is an airiness and a faint perfume'ish distant floral (to me it smells like Lily with a dash of mums).

    It's just amazing.

If you enjoy the earthy scents of gardening you'll like this.

My mother ( 69) had the distinction of being here when I opened my package, it reminds her of gardening with her grandmother in RI. She requested her own bottle. :)

Oh, Stacy, I've been waiting to see how you liked it! So glad it worked for you too.

And I had the exact same experience with my mom (age 72). She is a serious gardener and landscape artist, as well as having a fondness for graveyards (her property borders a 200-year old Vermont cemetery). So I will probably need to make one more trip to the Bin.... because I've already given away as much of my own stash of this as I wish to part with!

  13. Welcome Blackcat! I backtracked to read your first post and you sound a lot like me, into both the dark and foody scents. I love how LP does a lot that are a mix of dark and foody or deepy sexy and foody, so you'll be in heaven here!

Hey, Invidiana, I've been admiring your avi for some time! I will definitely pay attention to what works for you, since dark and foody, oh yeah!

Catching up to the Welcome thread after being offline for a bit... Hello! ... one of the most important things I have learned is always try something several times,a week or so apart ,I did not like OCCO White the first few times I used it,and then it became a serious staple in my collection :) ... and still shudder thinking how close I came to discarding LP Red,another all time favorite now !!

...oh and what Mz DC said especially "you will recover from that angst with a new favorite to console you" ...but that being said, get em while you can :001_302:

Hi Calii, thanks for the reminder! I've set the OCCO White aside and will keep trying. And as for getting 'em while I can--oh dear. It's so fortunate I started this second job, because between New Releases and the sale, I am going to town...

  14. Thanks Hearts for posting the description about Prophetic Pie . I've been wondering if anyone has felt or worked with the intent of this one or whether they just use it as perfume. Have you had any experiences with it in terms of it helping you?

Lemon Tarts... that sounds good!!! :Emoticons04269: Oh well... I must turn and walk away. I cannot purchase anymore. Maybe it will pop up in the trades page someday.

I certainly was aware of the intent when I purchased it--most of the scents I'm drawn to aren't good ones for me to wear for work, so I've been trying to branch out a bit and find things that I can use in a setting where I need to be seen as warm, approachable and professional (instead of sexy and mysterious, which is how I like to be seen the rest of the time, LOL!). Also where I need to get off my ass and get things done! I've been struggling a fair bit recently, and I find that Prophetic Pie really helps me to put hard stuff aside, stop brooding, head out into the world, and enjoy a productive task-y day.

I noticed the bottle level is already visibly lower! so I might need to grab one more.

I should be done with the sale. I should SO be done with the sale, but I keep telling myself that it's great to grab full bottles of things I know I love when they are so much cheaper!

I have tried Alien Cake and its ok on me until dry down.. It gets a lttle earthy. I love Kanary Kremes! It's like a lemon tart! Yum! Bakery scents always get me

Since I love earthy, you might have just sold me on this one! And now Kanary Kremes... :Emoticons10311: Thanks so much!

  15. I love your review on this Blackcat!! I have a couple of bottles coming my way and I can't wait to try it out. Hopefully I'll get the same good feeling from it that you have.

I've been loving your reviews for a while, Storemy, so thanks! I noticed we both nabbed a couple of the same August PEs, too... I hope this one works well for you.

I have another one of these coming too. I love how comforting this scent is. It's a warm fruity scent. It also has the ghostly Halloween vibe to it. Ill take any helpful spirits that come with it! I adore smelling like pie... Or any bakery, desserty smell !

I hadn't thought of this one as a Halloween-y vibe, Hearts, but I think you're right! I do love the bakery desserty smells. The other one I've been enjoying that reminds me a bit of this one is Lost Highway. And both of them have me wondering if I need to snag some Alien Cake while it's on sale! Have either of you tried that one?

  16. OK, I bought a full bottle of this unsniffed, based on the reviews here, and I am so thrilled with it! When it goes on, I get gorgeous cakey goodness--I can pick out the carrots, the beeswax and honey, and the creamy butter. As it dries, though, the carnation emerges, and it's just the most lovely spicy floral aroma. I wore this to work for my retail job, where I'm on my feet and in motion for most of the day, and I kept having the delightful experience of turning around and bumping into a subtle cloud of scent--this one really lasts throughout the day. This was lovely as a foodie smell initially, and then it's quite a bit less foodie. A winner for work, not least because it had a definite mood elevation effect. I need to be careful with LPs at work--most of the scents I'm drawn to are not appropriate for those settings (retail and academia), so I'm really glad to have found this. It seemed as if people were a bit nicer than usual--not sure if that's the effect of the scent on them, or just the result of my warmer, brighter mood, but I'll take it. I might need to get another bottle of this while supplies last.

  17. OMG!!! Just got around to trying OCCO GOLD and all I can say is " Ohhhhh... honey, HONEY! Yes.. YESSSS!!!" LOL! First let me say that I am a total hoe for honey. When I first put this one on, it smelled very close to Phero Girl to me. which I also love, but PG is smuttier on my skin. The cops on this one took longer to die down on me than usual for some reason. Like maybe a 2 hours? Strange. I was at home anyway, so no biggie. Once this dried down totally though, it came through on me as DIVINE honey that really popped, totally amped (YAY) mixed w/ something like marshmallow? I have to say also that this one has some amazing staying power! I put this on yesterday afternoon after showering and it is over 24 hours later and i can *still* smell it! I absolutely adore it and am in honey heaven. If you dislike honey, then you have been fairly warned. As for my opinion... YUMMY!

Rose--I just wanted you to know that I ordered a sample of OCCO Gold based on this review! I thought I was all set with my Sugared Honeycomb, but this is SO delicious! It's a little deeper and a little darker on me than the Sugared Honeycomb, and I am thrilled to have a second honey scent that I love this much (not to mention, thrilled to have a cops option that works for me, since some of the others I have tried have not worked well with my skin). Thanks so much for your wonderful review!

  18. Lp original is second on link. There is no vetiver in it though. Maybe you're confusing the verbena Cheesy?

    http://www.lovepotionperfume.com/perfumerie/

Ah, got it, many thanks! I kept putting in "original" as a search term and missing the obvious. I am getting my next order together, and a sample of this is definitely part of the plan!

Between the sale and the unbelievable abundance of August/September new releases, this fall is going to be an overwhelming abundance of good smells!
