  1. I think I remember that there were problems which prevent the re-brewing of Sandman Snoozeth. That's why everyone was so keen on making a new sleepy potion for the forum designed August collection. Le Sommeil Des Anges should be available soon, and a little bird told me it will even have the same, (super potent,) German Chamomile that was used in Sandman Snoozeth.
  2. Okay, six hours after application, the custardy note was even stronger, with an even farther throw. Up close, I still got roses, but at any distance, it was just that pudding, bare skin scent. It got to be too much, and I had to wash it off. (I'm not into really "foody" scents unless they're fruits or heavily spiced. I thought the roses balanced this one enough, but walking around in a cloud of creamy pudding just didn't work out for me. Sigh.)
  3. Sultry Afternoon just doesn't work for me. It starts out very soft and delicate and lovely, but within fifteen minutes it turns into, "HEY, I HAVEN'T WASHED MY UNDERWEAR IN THREE WEEKS." Gag. Oh well, lots of other lovelies to compete for space on my skin.
  4. In the bottle: A little juicy roses, a little creamy softness. On, wet: the roses dominate on me, but these aren't the delicate sugared roses, these are full bodied, luscious roses, almost like fruit in their juicy intensity. The custard hangs out in the background, melding seamlessly with the roses, to give them depth and make them lie propperly on the skin. This is the kind of rose that I miss from Wine and Dead Roses, succulent and impossibly rich. The cocoa butter, musks and vanilla make a great, "bare skin" backdrop for the roses. This is a scent that really doesn't require clothes, though a nice necklace might set it off perfectly. Drydown: The custard comes forward a bit, bathed in musks, like cream smoothed skin with rose petals scattered across it. ETA: This is also a great mood lifter. It is an empowering, female scent that just makes me feel good!

    Hot Chick

In the bottle: Interesting! I get a green fruit vibe out of this one, with a hint of florals. On, wet: still that green, very fresh fruit and floral. It has the refreshing vibe of a honeydew melon mixed with fresh grass, but it doesn't smell like either of those. Drydown: Okay, now I can smell some sugared roses, and the freshness is almost recognizable as mint. The clove blossom gives an almost vanillic warmth to the sugars and the roses. This is a very lovely summer scent, cooling, fresh and unusual. It's like wearing a rose based perfume to a picnic, with sprinklers nearby, and lots of watermelon, except you get all that even sitting at a desk and working. Fun!

    La BOOM!

In the bottle: Red berries and creamy cocoa butter. On, wet: To me, this is more of a white chocolate scent, with bouyant raspberries on top. Drydown: After fifteen minutes or so, the raspberries turn momentarily noxious, like rubbing alcohol, (or maybe this is the playdough that esmeralda notes,) and then seemed to disappear, leaving a low, creamy, white chocolate behind. Pleasant, but disappointing. Wait! There's more. Half an hour after that, I was moving around, and suddenly got another waft of raspberry. Where did that come from? Oh, it's me! The raspberry resurfaced, this time mixed in to the white chocolate scent. When I sniff my arm up close, the white chocolate dominates, but from a foot or two away, the raspberries become apparent. Amazing! The progression of this scent was like someone mixing up an elaborate confection. They throw fresh raspberries on top of melted white chocolate, then start to mix. For a moment, the chocolate is folded over the raspberries, and it is as if they are gone, but in a little while, the mix turns pink, and the now warmed rasberries are incorporated into the chocolate. Despite the fact that cream, chocolate and raspberries are food items, there is something perfumey about this scent as well, which elevates it from a decadent dessert to a sophisticated scent. Really lovely!
  7. In the bottle: a burst of fruit, with a background of something dry; perhaps it is the spices. On, wet: mostly plum, sweet with the promise of a tangy edge. Under that, the dry spices play discord in an interesting way. This is almost gothic, if so much sunny fruit could be termed as such; or like a fresh market, set in a very old place. Drydown: In the early drydown, there is a point where the different notes in this coalesce into an almost foody scent, but then the hint of cakiness melts away and this becomes a really lovely blend of exotic spices delicately sweetend by the fruit. When this scent is fresh, the fruitiness has a long throw, but as it progresses and the spices take an equal part, it stays a little closer to the skin. This is a contemplative scent. One that encourages sitting still for a moment, and giving your brain time to work things out and invent. On first go through of my samples, I passed this one by, because the label didn't call out to me. Now I'm sorry that I did. This is one perfume that reminds me not to judge a book by its cover, it was an unexpected gem.
  8. This one is such a surprise. Very bubbly. In the bottle: a burst of juicy fruit. Very colorful, fun and exuberant. On, wet: Still fruity goodness, must be the peach, but it has a very pink cast to it; perhaps the contribution of the florals? My roommate comments that I smell like bubblegum. On, dry: Still sweet, but this one has gained an unexpected depth, that level of sophistication which other people have mentioned. This is totally upscale bubblegum, sweet, fruity, and girly, but with a grown up, expensive edge. Like a carnival, done in gilt and rhinestones. Those of you who have been looking for a pink scent might give this one a whirl. (Once the website issues have been ironed out, I'll try and update with the actual scent notes.)
  9. about fifteen or twenty minutes on me - rough guesstimate based on my commute; it was gone by the time I hit work. Yeah, I'm sure the other drivers think I'm crazy as I drive around with one arm glued to my nose.
  10. Okay, time to spend time with this one and do a proper review. :-) In the bottle: I get a bit of creamy fig, and a lot of something bright that smells almost herbal. Perhaps it is the cedar playing with the carnation, frankincense and mhyrr. On, wet: The sharp, herbal scent takes over on my skin, in a way which reminds me of Sandman Snoozeth. It is almost frustrating because I keep getting the subtle hints of creamy fig in the background, but it can't compete. Drydown: I am soooo glad I waited through the sharp bit. (On Sandman, it never went away, so I almost didn't bother.) The bright cedar settles in, never disappearing, but softening enough that the other notes can come out and play. First, that creamy fig (like in Portunis) dances up, and then an etherial waft of delicate floral spins through. I could swear it was lilac, but it must be the heather and lily. It is so gentle that I really have trouble picking it out from the other notes, and yet... it is completely separate, a twirling ribbon of pale lavender . This is the scent of Memory. Not any specific memory, but Memory, as a concept and as all memories should be. It is sweet milk, sunshine, wooden chairs sat upon so often that they have become silky to the touch, and flowering trees alive with fat, happy bees, but all viewed through the lens of wisdom refinement. Almost wistful, that's what this scent is. ETA: There's even something almost beachy in the drydown, like sunscreen. But I have no idea where this comes from, as it isn't coconut.
  11. I believe that "lily" is actually a non existant scent and that many people make lily accords. Unless you know the origin of the lily scent that doesn't work for you, and you know that a new scent uses the same accord from the same source, I would say don't rule it out. Then again, I'm a big fan of trying things, now that I've had so many experiences of falling in love with scents that I first thought would never work for me in a million years.
  12. I forgot BBQ sauce for the 4th! Mmmm. Since it's playing on the Liberty Bell, maybe it smells like oxidized metal.
  13. Okay, here are some guesses on what she got wrong : Forever After: clearly the arms behind the gown are symbolic of the wedding being behind her, so this is a potion tapping into sense memory of the after part, when it feels like forever - the smell of rancid dish sponges, a breath of tub mildew, with the faintest hint of soiled nappies. Fairly Lure: based on tradition gifts left for faries - oatmeal Liberty belle: what's more American than apple pie? Hotdogs. - processed mystery meat and all the condiments Sun Catcher: the warm scent of colored glass. This one comes with or with out the phero addition LEad, "make him lose his mind." Summer Solstice '08, well, it feels a bit like the year of the bananna here, so maybe the LP base with bananna. Okay, seriously now: It would make sense for Liberty belle to smell like apple pie, but that label looks like a crisper scent, maybe something representing fireworks? Fairy lure may in fact be based on traditional offerings left for the fae, honeycakes and cream? Blossom of love, hydrangea? Naughty Minx, a pin up series with coconut, since we've got the coppertone reference.
  14. Ditto. Good luck. Remember that the agony of this time is just birthing pains for your new life, which is going to be fantastic.
  15. Wow. My experience of this scent is nothing like the description, but I love it! In the bottle: fruity, and fresh, but warm and complex On, wet: a burst of lemons, (where did those come from,) with a berry fruitiness backing it up, and tempered by an ambery, slightly woodsy warmth that makes this absolutely delicious, but not at all an edible fruit. Very fresh without being too bubbly, or soapy, or aggressively sparkely. Very warm and comforting without being dark, or sleepy. Drydown: the lemon calms down, and becomes more like dried lemon peel, the subtle woods and the warm ambery note amp up a little. There is still something very fresh about this scent, like grape tannins, though there is nothing grape-juicey about this scent. (You know, that crisp, tartness of grape skins -- thats what this blend has.) I adore this scent. (I will have to re-try the women's again, but I remember liking this one more the first time I tried them.) This aged really well, because while I remember liking it the first time I tried it, I wasn't blown over the way I am today. I think I may need a full bottle of this for the summer, it's the perfect combination of warm/relaxing, and fresh/energetic. It also smells great on my man -- a wonderful, unisex scent.
  16. let's see, guesses based on names and art-work. Turkish Delight, with lemon and rose? Beltane, probably incense and some kind of food, (lol,) though with the Unicorn label it might be more fresh than that. Piggy will be based on that recipe mentioned in the weight-loss thread, the one with mostly foody ingredients, which is supposed to help with appetite control. Fortune Cookie, an Asian inspired cookie smell. (Does it have some citrus, some ginger to add depth, or is it a plain, clean cookie?) Turn On, I'm guessing that the inspiration for this and the last contest were the same. Something with really bold notes, like colors in psychadelic art, maybe even a breath of the New Years Evil cannibus, but used in a completely different way, for that touchy, feely kind of high. Night of the Fae... I have no idea. Love it though. Hmm. Maybe jasmine, lilly of the valley and mushroom? Un, for men -- well, with Super Man stripped to his skivvies, I'm thinking the cool clean of the upper atmosphere, with a little bit of earthly musk and tree tops. Though, as this is a Mara dream, it might have some vanilla as well. Speculation on the other four. At this point, my bets would be on a naked Lois, a pin-up girl, and I have no idea. This month's collection is extremely varied.

Sounds like a plan. Just let me know what you want to swap for. Heh.

(Psst. It layers amazingly with Medium, both scent and intent -wise.) Is it wrong that I wish it smelled a little more like dirt and pond water on me? Lol. Different strokes and different scents for everyone, eh?
  19. The first, I believe. Didn't Potion Master say they were going to keep the scented blends limited like their other scents, because they are dedicated to coming out with new phero blends [scents] every month?

In the bottle: Wet and green. The green is just a squee pinch sweeter than mown grass, which may be the florals. On, wet: Mmmm. This is not swampy at all, but very cool and damp. It's like the woods after a rain fall, fresh and green. Drydown: A breath of resins plays under the greenery. It's illusive, and it plays at the outer edges of my senses, but it's there. As the scent continues to dry, a "musky, dusky" element comes to the forefront. It smells like old knowledge, without the acrid edge of cynicism. This isn't a "Maiden" scent, as it has too much dignity and calm, despite the Springy greeness of it's opening. This is another scent I'm having trouble breaking down and describing as a smell, so here's a better description: You walk into the a clearing in the woods. There are no birds singing, or myserious rustlings -- not because the animals are gone, they are just waiting for what comes next. You settle yourself in the cool moss, and close your eyes. As you clear your mind, the sense memory of other rituals slides through you, and you can almost smell the incense of those times. But today is different, and you bring no props. As your mind settles, your consciousness slips into the earth around you. Your mind merges with the soil and the ancient calm of the Earth. Your body also harmonizes with its surroundings. Wherever your sweat is bitter, or the dark folds of your body held pungent secrets of bottled hurt and bitterness, the Earth cleanses you. When at last you open your eyes, it is with a serenity you didn't know you had. You breath in and smell the dusky scent of your new self, feeling how it matches the quiet power which now rests in every vessel of your body: muscles, lungs, heart.
  21. (Psst. I believe that the reason for labeling it as " Betrothal II" is that they are re-brewing it. So don't be too sad.)
  22. fixed! Welcome to the boards, Nycorson! Watch out, there's tons of awesome scents to fall in love with here, and if you like incensey scents, you'll find plenty to adore. :-)
