Have you ever read Julia Phillips' memoir You'll Never Eat Lunch In This Town Again? Ever since I did, whenever I watch The Lost Boys I'm always thinking about how she totally chicken-hawk'ed Brooke McCarter.

This was the blend (when it was first released) to make me cave once and for all and say "Okay, I'm going to order that 10-sample pack!" (back when M&D were offering that option). I love the inspiration and I think Danna's a great conceptualist for these kinds of "dark" scents. Unfortunately, when I first tried SC it was ALL leather and cotton candy, eventually fading to sea air and floral ambience and it didn't seem to mesh well on my skin at all. But since I've given it time to age I notice that the leather has toned down considerably and I get more of the overall mood it's meant to invoke. It's now an experience, it's like being there in the movie and brushing up against one of those characters, as he stares at me and I quake with fear...and possibly arousal...looking into those eternal eyes...
  3. I like almond in a blend as long as it's not the heart note, then it has a tendency to go a bit sharp on me. But I'm looking forward to trying it...looks like I'm going to have to do two orders before the next round of new smellies...I had to get some things for friends this time, though I'm excited about the new ones I did choose.
  4. (May's) Spanish Gold - is it because of the gold flakes in the perfume (you've got it in a bottle with just a hang tag, maybe)? I'm trying to imagine what Synchronicity smells like, heh. But I think I need to try it because I'm always saying that my life is ruled by it.
  5. LOL, I'm having to rein myself in today. *vibrates from curiosity and excitement*
  6. The label for Piggy is sooo cute! And is Turkish Delight going to be your take on rahat loukhoum? I would love that! Turn On sounds like fun, heh, and I'm not even really sure what it is...
  7. I find it has a lovely rose note; I have only discerned the other notes in the vial, but I think it's great for work, it gives off a good "respect me" vibe, and it makes me feel pretty without feeling too girly (which freaks me out, heh).

I received a small sample in a recent order and this smells so familiar to me! I never got the chance to try Messalina, so it's reminding me of something else, I wish I could remember what. It starts out very sweet on me, not specifically fruity or flowery, more like a combination of those qualities...very complex and ornate. In the drydown I get more of the spicyness. This would be another Fall scent for me, when I'm in the mood to be sophisticated.
  9. I was planning to save this for another month or so, as I got it specifically to wear for Summer, but we've had summer-like weather for the past two days, so I gave it the Maiden Voyage. There are some great fruity topnotes in the vial, the lime is especially nice in that it's tangy and not overly sugary. The spices help to tame the alcoholic bite of the rum, the coconut and vanilla give it a nice creaminess...YUM! My only problem is that this really makes me want to break out the cigars (rum has that effect on me, lol) and my sinuses would hate me for that. But this is totally a tropical getaway in a bottle, ahoy!
  10. My first older man drove an Austin Healy, it was cream-colored and extremely fussy.
  11. Here are more impressions from my friend Bob, via email: Super smells really good. I like it. It does have a very uplifting quality to it. It reminds me of something but I'm not sure what...however when I first sniffed it, I suddenly thought of running around in Big Bear when I was much younger. Strange. I learned the first application that a little goes a VERY long way. So far, I have found that people are suddenly very helpful.
  12. And that's all I need to know...can't wait to try it as an add-in!
  13. And you may not want your Bears giving off that EST vibe, Chai, if you know what I mean.
  14. Yeah I think that "metallic" thing I get is the pheros...I get it in PB SUPER as well, but not until the drydown (it's like man smell with metal) whereas with PG SUPER I smell it right away, which would make sense in that it's the female version.
  15. *edit* Whoops, need to read, duh...never mind.
  16. An amusing update... My friend Bob (who is a major hottie and doesn't really need "help" but has submitted to my influence regarding the joy of perfume) received his order and his first message to me was: "Holy shit, I smell SUPER!"
  17. As I've said, I'm not big on florals per se, but I do like gourmand florals (Possets' Silver series and Arcana's Rapunzel, for example) and I think violets are especially suited to blending with gourmand elements. This is so yummy-sweet in the vial and during the wet stage it's got a classic honey feel to it, like opening a bear-shaped bottle kinda thing. And it's got good throw, I keep getting a waft of myself every so often. My only issue is that the violet goes rather powdery on me during drydown, crowding out the other notes. That's a problem I have with florals in general, alas. However, one of my cute co-workers gave his seal of approval, quote: "Now that's the stuff!" So there you go, Dolly, you know what boys like!

I'll have to give layering them a whirl sometime, thanks ma'am!

    Dirty Sexy

For me, even with giving it a couple rotations (rather than actually shaking), the fruit top notes are so strong at first, yikes! I'm thinking the musk is really amplifying the effect, as musk has a tendency to do. The drydown is very yummy, though and as I said in another thread it evolves into OMG TAKE ME NOW!. But it's funny, I wish Nasty Habits was louder and Dirty Sexy quieter...skin chemistry is such a capricious thing.
  20. liz, you don't have a LUSH near you? There's not one down in my neck of the woods, but occasionally I'll get to visit one of their stores.
  21. Wow Mara, you don't mess around! So I don't run the risk of TMI, let me just say if my dreams on PB SUPER were porno, they would have definitely been of the XXX variety! (I think this calls for Dom Banana! ) One other thing I wanted to say is that this isn't merely what a man should smell like, it's the scent of an actual man. I've referred to it as Man-In-A-Bottle to my friends as a selling point, heh.
  22. Having field tested this very thing, I can say that the dreams in question were definitely not crabby. I can confirm this!
  23. Isn't it amazing how great it smells on us too?!

It's been overcast down here in San Diego for a couple of days so I thought it would be a good time to test this one on me. There's a very lovely sweetness in the vial, which I'm guessing is the champaka flower but I don't really get any top notes when I apply, just the spices almost immediately. The base does a very good job of keeping them blended, I can't really sense one note stronger than any other. Eventually the amber becomes more prevalent...I enjoy how smooth this is, as many times spice blends can turn out too sharp or just olfactorily overwhelming. Along with LP Autumnal Equinox and Raven Moon, this is a great blend for fall, or any time you feel like being...spicy.
