  1. Based on my run-in with Levitation this week, via a sample I bought from Bruise Violet (and if you want to know what happens when you open a package and then sort through that stuff after immediately locating the Levitation and applying, go to the end of her trade page and look for the GIFs) I'm buying some Open Windows spray tonight or tomorrow with my order. This is the first time I've bought a spray rather than acquiring from the trade pages. So I know it's such a newb question but what are the pros and cons of alcohol versus oil? Alcohol has greater diffusion, right? Oil sticks around longer. So, 60/40 alcohol/oil is probably the best middle ground, right? But what about the 60/40 alcohol/silicone? Silicone doesn't get absorbed in our skin, so that's better for sticking around in case our skin is hungry with a specific blend and "eats" it all. Thoughts? I'll be going through this and the other OW threads, but if people can post within the next 24 hours or so that'd really help me. Thanks.

lol @ "Dolce Fat Niente" I just envisioned a short, fat Italian woman who has no problem being a larger lady and pushing her lovely squishy lady bits into everyone's space, because, goshdarnit, she's Italian, and that's her right as an Italian woman!

Yup. Better yet, if you have some open windows, add that too to have the Levitation version of the Amazonia Zee-party bomb You know, I looked at this one and thought-- half the ingredients look great, and then the other half I didn't think would be for me. But now, I'm actually wanted to try it based on how it comes across to many of you. I love goat milk soaps and stuff. I just hope when I finally get to test this that the lemongrass doesn't get uppity.
  4. When I first put this on, I hadn't read the scent ingredients (well, not for several weeks anyway) so I was VERY surprised when I got a blast of melted butter. Immediately I got a yak face going because melted butter+ sweet stuff is not a good smell for me even in the kitchen. Melted butter+savory stuff on the other hand... I jumped over to the scent notes for this so I could see what was going on and understood the butter/cream thing. I do like the cardamom coming through. I have a bottle of Aija's Sugared Amber, Cardamom & Vanilla and that stuff is great! After a little while, and luckily by a little while I mean minutes, the butter smell calms down, turns a little bit more milky, but mainly it's cardamom and sugar coming through. Reminds me of making cookie dough as a kid, where we would mix the butter and the sugar first and slowly start to mix in the other ingredients. This perfume reminds me of that dough at that point-- before all the ingredients are all homogeneously mixed in, and just after the vanilla has gone in. Definitely a cooking vanilla scent and not a sheer one, but also not the candy smell of a lot of vanilla scents. I dunno. This one may grow on me and I will retest it a few more times, but the butter, even calmed down, is just a bit too "there" for my likes. It smells too much like when I've gotten butter on my hands and haven't washed it off and I don't know why that kind of grosses me out smell-wise, but it does even though the rest of the perfume is rather pretty. Edit: ack! just watched the saddest video about returning soldiers and their dogs, and wiped my nose with the back of my hand. ACK! Butter attack and slight nose burning. I really need to start testing on the back of my wrists and not the back of my hands.
  5. That's such bullsh*t. I hope BOTH the professor AND the judge earned some bad karma for that. That's so bad! I'm sorry. I hate when I remember incredibly unfair stuff years later on and it still makes me get mad.
  6. I got a sniffie of this today, and I'm very happy because I've been wanting to try one of LPMP's carnation scents. Initially, I did get the spiciness of the carnation, mixed with musk. It is very light and wears close to the skin. It's probably the carnation, but to me it smells like carnation, white musk, with a very-light dusting of cinnamon on top. This is both exotic (like a soap from the Indian market--except they never smell this good) and yet innocent. If I had to put the age range on this, I would say this is a good starter perfume for a young woman/teenager (ha, because of the cheerleaders on the label artwork) who's starting to branch out. Though, honestly, I could see this as a good daily perfume for many (if it works for you) because I could see it being good in the workplace and also at home. Personally, this one wears a bit too close for me (six inches or less), and after about forty minutes (though it was a small application) it goes a bit "planty" rather than flower-y on me, and then turns into just a smidge of musk and sugar. Beccah already posted the scent notes but I love the bright pink of the label so wanted to post that p.s. I'm going back and now reading everyone else's notes on this (didn't want to bias myself) so I'm surprised this went crazy in your face on Eggers. I will be testing this again and maybe if I use up the entire sniffy, it will be the type of loud (without stabbing me in the eye) perfume that I favor. ha, ha, ha. I had the same issue. "hmmm, how to search for Pom Pom Nom Nom. Google? Nope, reviews don't show up." *thinksthinksthinks* "I know!* *types carnation and sees what comes up* bingo! You know, even though it's still in it's "planty" stage, I agree with the smokey adjective. It's a little bit too sweet for a cologne, but now I'm wondering about carnations on a man. Have there been any LP colognes with carnation done?
  7. " George Carlin offered the best suggestion: Tell the judge you'll make a great juror, as you can spot guilty people just by looking at them." http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Out-of-Jury-Duty
  8. How does it compare though-- Balm Bomb to Tranquility Potion? Anyone?
  9. I think everyone is competitive, especially when it comes to dating, even those who think they're not: http://www.violentacres.com/archives/100/dating-is-competitive-manipulation/
  10. Heart Throb in Pashazade has a little bit of cops in it, right? So it kind of spurs that competitive edge in women because they smell a "woman" on the guy and know he's both virile and desired by others (which as we all know, half the battle in dating is getting others to think you're in high demand.)
  11. I figured it had to be more complicated that I thought but I knew you also had some flexibility so I was curious how that worked. Impressive! Tanya, I doubt you'd ever sound stupid!
  12. I did have a question that may as well go here than anywhere: how far in advance are things planned out? Does Mara and the gang have a rough idea of the next six months and any new inspirations could then be processed after that? or is it more of a casual 1-2 months in advance planned out?
  13. Wet: This comes across as a thick, rich vanilla ice cream (you know, the expensive kind not filled with a bunch of crap fillers) with a little bit of spice. As it dries, it reminds me of this really thick pumpkin candle my parents used to have that came in equally thick glass. Clearly, since I was a kid, I'm remember this as a lot bigger than it probably was, but I'm pretty sure it's not just nostalgia that makes me think that that candle (though not expensive, we were too poor for that) was made of something a lot different than candles nowadays. 20-25 years ago, I'm sure this was the case but this is one of the few "candle" scents that I actually really like because a) the nostalgia tie, but also it smells different than most candles in the $5-20 range nowadays. Then is starts to morph and gets really spicy between 10-20 minutes and sticks with that through the 45 or so minute mark. It's the sort of spicey that I remember my dad smelling like because of his white bottle of old spice: Now, I reapplied along with some Balm Bomb and went for a run for fifteen minutes out in the heat. So I'm not sure if it was one of those variables or all of them, but when I came back, I smelled almost like a dead ringer for Archipelago Botanicals hand cream (either the soy milk or the oat cream, I can't tell-- with one whiff it seems sweet like the soy milk and then the next whiff I'll get a bit of oatiness): I love Archipelago and used to get a bunch of gift cards for them, however at $18/pop for a toothpaste sized tube of the stuff, I found lotions for cheaper that work better but oh, do I miss that smell! Conclusion: this one is a win for me across the board from wet through several different morphing stages. I could only wear it for about 90 minutes before grabbing a shower after my run, but I'm looking forward to having this one being slathered 1-3 times a week. Seems like a very easy grab and go type fragrance and I can see it being paired really well with the comfort UNs and the sexy UNs.
  14. Reading that and hoping that a journal article would be full of awesome (but alas, scientists often manage to squeeze all the fun out of something) made me think of a judge writing a court document in the way I would hope a scientist would write a "Dude, smell my finger!" experiment on copulins. While completely off-topic in terms of science, pun-afficianados take heed of a master at work: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/05/01/180282342/judge-doubles-down-on-double-entendres-in-strip-club-case
  15. Posting several times in a row rather than going back and editing your last response so everything is in one post. Look at how others post: it's rare to see people post one post right after the other. I can see how you may not understand. I know Luna has jumped in before when another poster was doing the same thing so perhaps she'll jump in. No reason to get feathers ruffled. It's merely what the norms are in this forum community (and most others I've been on) but kind of more weighted here because you get discounts for every block of hundred posts. Some people when they first get here post a lot of posts in a row to try to get as many posts as possible until someone points out the edit feature and the posting norm of including everything in one post unless someone has responded to you.
  16. you can multi-quote and respond to everything in one post I know it's easier to just respond (especially if you're on a phone) and then click respond again when something pops up you want to respond to, but havig several posts in a row where no one is respondong but you comes across as post-whoring to get your numbers up I like your posts, but just thought you should know in case you didn't. When you've posted but someone else hasn't responded, and you want to post again just hit edit and tag it onto the end of your post. Easy-peasy!
  17. Not being a big patchouli fan (except, I think white patchouli which LP introduced me to, or if not white than something different than the norm) I was unsure how I would like this. Two thoughts: as a kid I would play with myrrh and frankincense that my mom kept in a cupboard, just small amounts that she'd brought back from, I believe, Jerusalem. This reminds me of one of those. During Christmas, for Christmas mass, the priest would swing the incense around in the thurible, and the Church would be filled with a slightly smokey sweetness. Despite this being a very simplistic scent list of amber, patchouli, and white sugar, and being pretty sure that my Church used amber or patchouli, I find this kind of nice. Tyvey, in one of her reviews talking about how it morphs for her called this "chewy" and that's a pretty apt adjective. It's warm, smokey, a little bit woody and God love me despite being a lapsed Catholic--but I'm already fond of this little patch stinker. And I say stinker with affection-- it's got what I think of as a mid-range throw (that I can tell) of about 12-18 inches but I'll have to experiment with it more. This might enter the rotation not just as a day scent, but more so as a just before bed scent for when I don't want the clean cool up-town feel of Karmiel's Silken Moonlight.
  18. I asked this in a different thread but haven't heard back. I've gotten my sample and I really like it. I think it smells good and makes me feel good. Is there any chance that this scent could be rebrewed? If not, I understand, but I would love to know before I continue to use my sample just so I can appreciate it for what I have, or else feel totally awesome that I'm going to be riding the slather-train when I buy a rebrewed bottle.
  19. I got this for free in a trade (shpanks a million, BruiseViolet) and intriguingly, this comes across as masculine when first applied, and goes into gender neutral territory but still leaning towards masculine after a couple hours of wear. I appreciate how this smells like good, clean laundry that doesn't have that loud, chemically-hitting-you-over-the-head-with-detergent smell. I knew someone who used to be fond of Angel perfume (though it's been awhile since I've smelled that) and that kind of struck me as clean laundry smelling. But with this, it just seems so much more, well, expensive and elegant. I want to be the rich lady who buys the ridiculously overpriced boutique laundry soap that smells like this, and have the matching candles, bath soap, and drawer sachets so everything I wear and sleep on smells like this. It also has strange magnetic qualities-- I sniffed it and thought it smelled masculine without being able to nail down the notes and then just kept sniffing at more frequent intervals and now I know this is going to be applied to my sheets by my head so I can bury my head in this at night. I don't think it's got a lot of throw, which in some ways is a shame because I like perfumes that keep me in my own cloud like Pigpen from Snoopy, except, you know, smelling good, and of course, not triggering anyone's allergies as well since I don't want to be one of "those ladies." However, I could see this one easily being added to the permanent, acquire-on-sight list rotation. *goes off to see how many bottles on artfire.* p.s. I just want to add that while I love my dove soap and the smell it imparts to my skin, I don't actually like soapy scents so I'm marvelling that this reminds me of good clean laundry, without crossing into soap territory. Edit: I reapplied to put some cuddle bunny in to test my CB un. I rubbed my forearms over each other and that seemed to increase the masculine scent. Almost like a certain aftershave that I remember a teacher or my dad wearing? Wet, it also has a note that reminded me of my church growing up, but then again, I went to a Catholic school so maybe that was still my teacher's cologne there. That masculine soap/aftershave/cologne smell is slowly fading towards the laundry smell but it takes a little while. interesting!
  20. I got sweet florals, pleasant, with a lot of fluffiness. If it stuck with just that, I think I would have kept it. What made me trade it away was after the sweet floral+fluffiness was there was this almost herby, "I've just walked into a small, local, alternative-health grocery store." Not pungent, but present enough to distract me away from the pleasantness of the rest of it. Loved the history of how this was made though!

This smells good, soft but still fragrant. I can see this being good in any season because it has soft floral/fruit for warm weather, but there's something cuddly about the...almost milky elements that would make it good "it's getting cold outside" weather. However my first impression is this: you know the milk that's in your cereal bowl after finishing the cereal? This kind of smells like the milk after finishing fruit loops or lucky charms (or maybe both together.) It's pleasant but that definitely is triggering a scent memory that kept me smelling it and going "it's not fruit loops but it's so close. What is it?"
  22. you could wear it underneath, it shouldn't clash. If you want the most diffusion, I think alcohol is the best one for that (people, chime in to say yay or nay) but you would have to bring your perfume bottle and reapply every couple of hours.
  23. LFM could be good, but you're just not going to know until you try! You already have LFM? Otherwise I'd probably pick one of the other ones that will make you more "sparkly" and make people feel really open like they've known you for awhile and you make them feel really good so of course they want to tip you well because next time they'd be requesting you specifically!
