  1. Like incense, I guess? You know how some resins have that quality of smelling like they're being burned even if they're not? It's like that, I think anyone who uses incense regularly automatically associates certain notes with smoke. There are different types of smokiness, of course, but in this case I mean incense. Champaca is a major note in certain types of incense so that's why I get that evocation, I think.
  2. Heh, I've had that reaction to more than one LP on Quince...but not that one!
  3. I'm thinking the type of jasmine used gives it that smoky feel...it's really nice. Anyone who likes the more resin type of scents will enjoy this.
  4. I'll preface this with an anecdote... I have tried Allegro and Happy Water and while I enjoyed the scents for what they were, I just wasn't feeling the happy. I got a bit melodramatic with Q: "Maybe I'm just immune to chemical joy." "Do hush, Quim. I know that's not true." (The lesson here is: melodramatic ploys for sympathy may not work with someone who gives you orgasms.) So then of course I thought maybe I wasn't using enough but I had slathered Allegro big time...so I considered my chemistry just didn't wanna play nice. But wearing this makes me think the synergy just wasn't what I needed, before. But this is so light, it really does embody the concept perfectly. It does have a certain weightlessness to it, like it's not actually on my skin, but floating somewhere above it. The dill gave me pause when I first read the description but it adds something which needs to be there, an almost minty quality, I think? The vanilla musk is wholly suggestive of itself but it is not a true gourmand type: much more subtle but not dark, not dry, just exactly what it needs to be in harmony with the other elements. If anything it reminds me of when vanilla musk was first marketed: sort of a alternative to the classic flowery-type white musk, yet still quiet and clean. Green tea is one of those accords that I think you either like or you don't. Back when I was still wearing commercial-type scents, Elizabeth Arden's version was a favorite of mine, so I find it very lovely and then it becomes a powdery skin scent evocation in the drydown. What I want in the workplace, I've realized, is very different from the overall zeitgeist here: I don't want to be the femme fatale - that would actually sabotage the years of effort I've put into being The Smart One - but nor do I want to be the center of attention, that would prevent me from getting my work done. What I want...is this. Something light and sweet and calm to get me through the day...despite enjoying my job for the most part, it is sometimes fraught with people who annoy me and tedium in the form of paperwork but then I can sniff myself repeatedly and breathe and realize it's okay. I think I get it now.
  5. OH M&D, WHY SO AWESOME?! God, I love this...and I wasn't sure whether I would, because I am a SRS BSNS patchouli lover, so I want the thick syrupy dirty patchouli; I want raunchy hippie, you hear me? But this drier version has an almost sandalwood-like aura to it, resin-y but not as deep, complementing the honey perfectly which is then accented by the vanilla sugar. It might even be the first fuckable gourmand, I just didn't know it till now. You're going to bankrupt us all with the PEs, you know that, don't you? BECAUSE THEY ARE SO AMAZING, I CAN'T STAND IT.
  6. I received a sniffee of this one and it's great! I enjoy how the warmth of the cinnamon melds with the tangyness of the grapefruit and the sweetness of the sugar...you can sense each note but together they create a delicious aura. I think it's something you could wear any time of year...very nicely done!
  7. LOL, I nearly lost my coffee there, it reminds me of something. Every year, the couple who introduced Quince and I have a "scenario" formal dinner, where we all appear as our personas and stay in character the entire evening. Everyone has a whimsical placecard at the table. Last year, these were ours (our hosts are quite cheeky, heh): Master Quince Quim's woobie Quim Master Quince's chew toy and wicked wench

    Ego Boostier

Yeah exactly...I was thinking that it reminded me of Miasma as well, not in scent so much as in mood/aura.

    Ego Boostier

Wow, this is potent on me...the resins amp up to eleven and a half (that's right, it's 1-1/2 more ), just the slighest dab on my wrists and it's all around me. The floral aspect is in the background and the honey sits on top. It's a very "womanly" scent, I think, one which does give off an aura of sophistication, power, and maturity. Well-crafted as always, of course. Heh, my Taurus aspect really likes this one whereas the Pisces is all this is waaaay too outgoing.

    Vain

Well the cynical answer is that people usually think they're the latter when they're really just the former. But I'm very cynical when it comes to that sort of thing, I guess because I've met too many people who believe they are psychic but they never manage to convince me. Not to say such people don't exist - because they do - but I've met very few of the genuine article.

    Vain

Vain doesn't last long on me at all, which is interesting because Dragon's Blood is one of those notes which usually "sticks" to me. It's a cozy scent to me, I think the spices give me that impression, and I also think it's one a man could wear - it's not overly sweet. It does provide an evocation of personal power but since it is soft rather than loud I'm not sure how assertive it actually makes me feel, lol. Maybe layered with something else Vain would have a more congruent feel to it.
  12. I had to surrender my sniffie of this to Quince, he said it actually did remind him of a castle he toured in his youth and the only thing which was missing was "the persistent smell of livestock."
  13. Well, in all fairness I think some of us did try to help before the conversation went off on a tangent, lol.
  14. To me, Scarlet Silk smells just like CKOne, so you might want to get a sample of that, and if you agree, then you can always order it with a BI add-in, for example. C.F.M. was another which reminded me a lot of CKOne, and it had TAL, but unfortunately it's sold out now. Tail is more tropical fruit-based than aquatic, IMO, so again you may want to get a sample before deciding. Do you just like the "clean" male-type scents, or male scents in general? The ones I'd recommend may not be your preference, I can't wear aquatic/green scents normally, but I do regularly wear some of the male LPMPs like Down and Dirty for Men and Teddy Man. My opinion on Swimming With Sharks is that it has a fairly light presence scent-wise. Once the cover scent fades you can smell it, but it's not an obvious kind of scent. Dominance is more of a pungent type of phero mix, IMO, it usually bleeds through whatever it's blended with eventually, but it's not as overpowering as the male version. But scent-wise it seems like Breaking The Ceiling would be one that you would like. Also I was going to say you probably don't need to use EOW and BI at the same time, given your age. That's a lot of cops, it's likely best to use BI only for the effect you desire. PS: Mara, fer realz?! This means I can wear it now! :2204:

    Thief of Hearts

Thief is really interesting as an olfactory experience...I wasn't really thinking of it in terms of its' inherent magickal properties (I don't gamble and I've already got my mojo working, if you know what I mean) but I think the balance of the two families (sweet/gourmand and spice/woods) makes for a really evocative scent. I want to try this on Quince because I think it will smell great on him as well (although the strawberry/watermelon top note will probably freak him out at first and I'll have to make the sad kitteh face); interestingly the cinnamon is not too strong on me, it tempers the other components nicely. It strikes me as the kind of scent that I will wear when I'm in the mood for it, but it's too complex for just casual wear...which is a good thing overall, IMO.

    NYMPH

Ah aquatics! *runs screaming the other way* This is, like, a HUGE sacrifice for me to weigh in on anything in this fragrance family, I want you to know. Strangely enough, this makes me like Cuddle Bunny that much more because I had always thought the fragrance of CB a little too aquatic for me, but then when I compared it to Nymph! it really was more floral. Nymph! does smell like pond water in the vial (not in a bad way) but during wear turns more "clean" without being overly soapy or sharp (the lack of musk to achieve this effect is a blessing). It's a nice shower-fresh skin scent for when you want that sort of thing, and I think you could layer it with other scents (like Tail, for example) in the hot weather to keep you feeling cool.
  17. Nah, "way too Cougar-ish" would be saying, after he made that observation, that he should follow you to the nearest tight space so he can really smell you to get the full effect of your awesomeness. Wait, what I am saying...that's just right!
  18. *reads description for Lascivious Peach* MARA I SAW WHUT U DID THAR!
  19. Right, that's basically the philosophy behind the blending.
  20. Ail is the expert, of course, but I believe copulins as a substance, since it is not a pheromone, won't have the same effect on your neurotransmitters as pheromones can (depending on what it is). Dolly (by her own admission) wears copulins every day, and I do not believe she has reported any negative self-effects.
  21. For me, it was either cops (Phero Girl) or SS4W (Super for Women), in that it made other women very territorial and snarky. We're all rivals, of course, but normally we're civilized rivals, copulins especially tend to erase that social filter. BAM is heavier on the copulins than the b-nol, so that's likely why you got that reaction. On the other hand, those who wanted closer contact might have been unconsciously attacting on an attraction. I had that happen with Me, Jane! not too long ago, an acquaintance was just blindsided by my phero vibe and wedged herself into my personal space, lol.
  22. Quite a few people in the community do wear mutliple mixes to varying degrees of success. They can all speak to that specifically when they find the thread. Dr. Stone has stated to Mara that he feels wearing more than one mix ultimately reduces the overall effect, but some users might disagree with that perspective.
  23. Since these are pre-blended, however, I don't know if that would be option, in terms of the intensity of the cover fragrance.

    Top Five

Oh yeah, I try to stick to a plan, although sometimes I slip, heh. Lately I've been obsessed with: Christine's Tropical Musk Adrienne's Tangy Ylang Tail G-String EGG '09
